Ricardo and me sitting in Costa Rica in November looking out over the beautiful Pacific Ocean, and the discussion centers on where our summer 2012 adventure will take us.  I have always wanted to ride Cuba, but the U.S. ridiculously frowns on that.  Suddenly Ricardo again brings up Alaska--maybe to the Arctic Circle--is the Arctic Ocean possible?

Well, this is only about the sixth time he has brought up the subject of Alaska---what the heck, let's do it. After all, I know the way.  Ricardo will fly into Corpus Christi May 24 and we will be on the road prior to June 1.  The trip, about 11,000 miles, should take us forty seven days.  The bikes?  I will be on my BMW R1200GS and Ricardo?  I keep suggesting the Goose but he thinks the Goose is too tall.  Ricardo likes the Kawasaki Vulcan 900 LT because it fits him better. We will see!

I have begun to prepare the bikes, new tires, oil changes, valve adjustments.....The route, I know! As for travel documents, our passports, Ricardo's Canadian visa, titles to the two bikes...that is about all we need.  And some warm clothes for the week when we are in the "land of constant daylight".  And maybe a few cans of Beenie Weenies and a can or two of Spam, just in case we get lost
