Hot--maybe just a little. Art, Ricardo and I decided it was too hot for tent camping and we found a decent motel for a cheap rate--plus air conditioning and a nice pool. 100+ degrees when we finally reached Del Rio--blazing hot.
Four hundred forty miles today in a nine hour brisk but sensible ride. Most through flat, barren south Texas. Then on to the Texas Hill Country of Leakey, Camp Wood and Rock Springs. Numerous stops for cool refreshments and gas, but we still covered 440 miles.
Art and Recardo are in the pool and I am updating the blog. Later tonight we will Visit Rudy's in Del Rio for some BBQed ribs and a gallon of iced tea.
Now for an embarrassing confession. Ricardo is riding my 2002 ST1100, Art is on my fully restored classic 1978 Honda GL1000. And Chuck, the proud "advenrure rider"? I am on a 2008 Kawasaki Vulcan LT Classic. Yes, a cruiser! My BMW R100GSPD will reject me. However, let me explain. This lunancy is only temporary. While Kerrillee and Daphne, my occupational and physical therapists, have worked miracles in driving my recovery, I still simply cannot mount and dismount either the BMW or rhe ST1100. So, my close friends Murray, Gary and Will Ramon at Cycle Rider fixed me up with a low cruiser that I can at least get on. How embarrassing. A sure sign that age is advancing.
Big Bend is calling and we will head out early tomorrow to the spectacular sights of Big Bend. probably a 330 mile day, but just as hot
